JKR: Unauthorized HP Book May Impact Fans Negatively
|
J.K. Rowling, and her legal team, are continuing their fight against the publishing of the Harry Potter Lexicon book that is to be published by RDR Books. In the past, Jo has stated that she feels it's wrong for the book to be published when the information can be found on the Harry Potter Lexicon author's website for free.
In the court papers filed, Jo stated, "I am deeply troubled by the portrayal of my efforts to protect and preserve the copyrights I have been granted in the Harry Potter books...If RDR's position is accepted, it will undoubtedly have a significant, negative impact on the freedoms enjoyed by genuine fans on the Internet...Authors everywhere will be forced to protect their creations much more rigorously, which could mean denying well-meaning fans permission to pursue legitimate creative activities...I find it devastating to contemplate the possibility of such a severe alteration of author-fan relations."
RDR Books' attorney stated that the book is like a reference book or a guide.
Jo is, of course, planning to write her own Harry Potter Encyclopedia, although she doesn't plan to start on it any time soon, as she is taking a (well deserved) break. |

J.K. Rowling Receives James Joyce Award
|
We previously told you that J.K. Rowling was scheduled to receive the James Joyce Award from the Literary and Historical Society at University College Dublin. She received her award yesterday and also read from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and answered some questions.
Some of the questions she answered included (courtesy of La Gazette du Sorcier) that Snape and Dumbledore’s histories were established before the Philosopher Stone was published, but states that she doesn’t think about the movie when she writes (even though she had a thought for the producers after having written the battle of Hogwarts, realising how much it would cost!)
And that if she were to meet a character it would be Dumbledore, 'to apologise for outing him', according to The Independent.
When she was asked, once again, about future Harry Potter books, she said she would never say never, but it wouldn't be anytime soon (at least not within the next 10 years). She did say she would be doing the encyclopedia (but didn't say when) and that proceeds would go to charity.
