J. K. Rowling Writes of Hard Times to Fight Social Exclusion

Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling is one of four authors living in Scotland who have submitted their stories to a book called One City whose proceeds will go to help fight social exclusion in Edinburgh, Scotland. In it, she speaks of when she and her daughter were on their own and poor, how boys threw stones at their windows, a drunk tried to break into their apartment, being broken into while she and her daughter were in bed, and how she has come to love Edinburgh. Her stories are in the introduction of One City, and the event is sponsored by The Scotsman. All proceeds go toward One City Trust, whose aim it is to help people in the poorest parts of Edinburgh enjoy the fruits of the city's economic and cultural boom. All of the authors will speak with BBC's Kirsty Wark of Newsnight about the book.
