With Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, we had some major spoilers revealed on our discussion boards. I, and the staff here at Harry Potter's Page, are going to try our very hardest to not allow this to happen again.
Therefore, some of the steps that we will take to help avoid potential spoilers are:
- Not posting up articles that speak of bookies taking bets on possible deaths (during the printing of book 6, the bookies were very close). - Closely monitoring the discussion board for potential spoilers once the book has been sent for printing. - Closing off the discussion boards and and the comments sections if we feel there is a possibility of a spoiler. The discussion boards will have each posting and member approved once the book has been sent for delivery to retailers. We will will shut down the discussion boards the day the book is released and it will stay closed until the first moderator finishes the book and is able to open it back up.
I just wanted all of you to know what our policy is, this way you know that if you do not see certain articles about bookies taking bets, or other types of guesses on the outcome of the last book, you know why. I don't want anything spoiled for the fans.

love this idea!

Right on! Close the boards. Kick out the offenders! Thanks muchly!
And I'm with iareaj: I don't read the news or the websites when the books get close to publication until after I've read them.
by HiddenFlame42 @ 30 Dec 2006 - 14:01
Good call Dij! Though I'd already guessed the death in 6, it was really annoying to have it confirmed on the boards before I read the book.
by chapovalverde @ 30 Dec 2006 - 05:25
Actually i don't understand why anyone would enjoy telling others how a story ends, but only an evil soul. I will be always with the mods and we all need to have both eyes open to report anything suspicious.
P.S.
Simply can't wait for the book!!!
by Theresa @ 29 Dec 2006 - 15:43
I agree and I hope other web sites will follow suit.
by iareaj @ 28 Dec 2006 - 20:32
well, when HBP was about to be released, i stopped visiting harry potter's sites. In the patronus i posted a "goodbye, see you after i read the whole book" and dispeared from that site, too. the day before i didn't even watch the news or read newspapers. of course, i think that your decision is the best thing. No one wants the very last piece of this story spoiled. thanks! (by the way, closed or not, i wasn't going to log in the last week before the book, anyway, ha!)
by @ 28 Dec 2006 - 18:17
This is a really good decision by Dij.
by @ 28 Dec 2006 - 15:27
hrrm, "Final Book".
Does anyone have any idea what's going to happen to the "Harry Potter Universe" after book 7?
by hailey @ 28 Dec 2006 - 14:01
i totally agree and abosutely love the idea. it is a genious one and i will be checking the news more oftem because of it. THANKX A LOT DIJARES
by jujubee @ 28 Dec 2006 - 12:48
i wasn't here when all that happened, but i wouldn't have been too thrilled to find out before reading the book.
the hard part for me will be having the comments closed, but ya know, it's worth it to not have it spoiled.
kudos! to Dij, for having the guts to make that decision and stick with it! you're awesome!
by Nina @ 28 Dec 2006 - 11:38
I totally agree with you, Dij! It was only in the HBP-section first, but then it was written in other sections as well, so it got spoiled for me too. And I really didn't like that! I'm glad you're doing this.
by 'baty' @ 28 Dec 2006 - 08:37
Well, I was actually on the boards, moderating, when it all started coming through, and it was spoiled for me right away. Unfortunately I had to get Dij involved and it had to spoil it for her. So I'm glad to see you doing this.
by Sriv @ 28 Dec 2006 - 08:22
I totally agree Dij. I myself had the sixth book spoiled by some moron on the boards whose screen name was a nice 'snapekillsdumbledoreonpage606'. It's funny when i think about it now. But I was furious back then. And I fefinitely don't want to get spoiled for the last and final book of this remarkable series.
