Another Movie Release For Broadbent...As A Father
|
We previously reported that Jim Broadbent, who will be seen as “Professor Slughorn” in Half-Blood Prince, appeared at Cannes for the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. In that film, he had the role of “Dean Charles Stanforth”.
And now, Mr. Broadbent’s film When Did You Last See Your Father? has been released today in selected areas such as New York and Los Angeles, as well as San Francisco where The San Francisco Globe posted an article about him.
The article mentions the acting background he had in his childhood and the variety of roles he played in his career, emphasizing the ones in which he seems jovial and caring:
Broadbent has the face of an imp. His mobile features allow him to take on lots of personas. You could see him in almost any role except a paid assassin. Somehow you wouldn't believe that someone with his bright eyes and smile could commit cold-blooded murder. But he has probably played one.

Even though Jim Broadbent’s character “Arthur Morrison” in When Did You Last See Your Father? seemed to be likable and humorous, the son played by Colin Firth and the wife played by Juliet Stevenson didn’t always think he was. The story centers on Colin Firth’s character, Blake Morrison, a writer, who reflects on his life-long relationship with his father who is dying.
The similarities between his father and “Arthur Morrison” influenced Mr. Broadbent to do the part.
"He was an exact contemporary of my father, and they are both from Yorkshire," he was quoted to have said over morning tea at a hotel where he stayed in Toronto. The film had premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. "So I knew that whole background. Arthur and my father had similar backgrounds and similar interests - fast cars and following motor racing. And both had the quality of being quite charismatic, but sometimes quite difficult and impatient. I can remember being embarrassed by my father just like Arthur's son was."
Although he didn’t mention his role in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Mr. Broadbent was quoted to have said this about the projects he chooses to do,
"I'll follow that script wherever it goes, if it's in a small theater or a large theater or television. I like varying it all anyway."
It will be interesting to see where Half-Blood Prince took him when it is released in November, 2008.

| Looks like a wonderful film. I hope it's released on a larger basis or that it's released on DVD everywhere. He's a great actor. |
