Harrow Times reported John Hurt was to be honored by the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts at the graduation ceremony led by Sir Paul McCartney who founded the school. The ceremony took place today in England. Mr. Hurt, recognized by Harry Potter movie fans as the wand maker Ollivander, was given the award and named a Lipa Companion for his contribution to the arts and entertainment world.

A woman who spoke for the institute was quoted to have said: "All Companions are also committed to sharing their expertise with Lipa students and most have provided masterclasses at the institute."

Music industry lawyer Ann Harrison, composer and performer Nitin Sawhney and choreographer Lea Anderson were also honored as well as Grammy Award winner Cathy Dennis and record producer Trevor Horn.

Mark Featherstone-Witty, the founding principal and chief executive of the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, was quoted to have said:

"This has been another year when people at the top of their professional powers have shared their professional lives with our students. "In addition to the people we are honouring today, I'd also like to thank all the people who gave their time to take a masterclass for our students this academic year."

Alan Rickman (Professor Snape) was listed as one of those people, along with Mark Rylance and Scottish singer Sandi Thom.

The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts offers degrees in acting, dance, music and theater studies. Approximately 261 students received their degrees and honors today at the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool.
