Richard Griffiths "Rambles" About Acting and Radcliffe

The Mercury News interviewed Richard Griffiths (Vernon Dursley) who is getting ready to appear in the Broadway revival of Equus with Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter). "Oh, by the way, I do tend to ramble with answers," he warns at one point. At another, he stops mid-sentence to apologize: "Sometimes I wonder if I'm just completely draining the sense out of everything." The article mentions that Mr. Griffith was born in England's Stockton-on-Tees and raised by parents who were both deaf and mute. Thea Sharrock the director of Equus believes that experience has contributed to his craft: "The first language he learned was sign. And therefore his ability to listen to people with his eyes as well as his ears is incredible," Sharrock says. "He has a unique talent for listening." As for Mr. Griffiths' regard for Dan Radcliffe, he was quoted to have made these comments. "I know a lot of tickets are sold in order to have a look at Daniel's body," Griffiths says. "He's completely cool about it." And, adds Griffiths, who affectionately calls Radcliffe "cunning," the young actor has spent the past two years working on his physique. and He's watched with mild amusement as his co-star Radcliffe's profile has soared.
