J.K. Rowling Wins Lexicon Lawsuit
|
Great news for J.K. Rowling today. The ruling has come back in the RDR Books vs Warner Bros./J.K. Rowling lawsuit and the judge has ruled in WB/JKR's favor. Judge Robert Patterson in U.S. District Court in Manhattan stated that RDR Books "had failed to establish an affirmative defense of fair use" and publication of "The Harry Potter Lexicon" should be halted.
The suit went to court this past April when Steve Vander Ark, the webmaster for the Harry Potter Lexicon, decided to publish what he termed as a Harry Potter reference book. The book, according to WB and JKR, contained many copyright violations. Vander Ark and RDR Books stated that they were within their right to use the text as the information fell under the fair use act.
