Potter Stars at Ring-Con German Conference
|
Some of the Harry Potter stars attended the 2008 Ring*Con conference in Germany recently. They included Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley), Stanislav Ianevski (Viktor Krum), and Jamie Yeates (Marcus Flint). German Harry Potter fan site Harry Potter Experts had the chance to speak with them about the films, including a bit about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Read more to see some of what they had to say. |

Jamie Yeates
Your character Marcus Flint is the only character in the Harry Potter books known for having to retake a schoolyear at Hogwarts. Were you anything like him at school?
At school I was really quiet. I don't think I was as much of a menace. I was always persuaded by people around me to be bad. If the bad kids weren't around, I was generally good. When you're at school everyone is sort of bad in their own way so I kind of relate to the character in that sense a little bit.
The Harry Potter books describe Flint as fairly ugly. Does that worry you at all?
No, not really. At the time I thought of what it says in the books, that he's got troll blood, is a bad guy, that he's got big teeth, horrible hair and that he's rough-looking. So being cast for it obviously doesn't boost your confidence that much but you kind of take it on the chin. It's not all about how good-looking or how ugly you are because it's all about acting.
Stanislav Ianevski
Can you remember what you felt when you first walked onto a set?
Yes, I was thrilled! There were cameras, there were crews, there was lighting, there was make-up, there was everything that you see on TV. And now they were going to be filming ME. I was like 'Oh my god, what's happening? Is this real or is this not?'. I tried to calm myself down and convince myself that I was going to do a good job.
Which scene did you like filming the most?
Probably the Yule Ball scene. It was split into bits. We didn't film one thing and then another thing, we did a big mixture of things. At the end, just before Christmas, we did the dancing stuff and the Great Hall was silver and icy, the atmosphere was absolutely amazing. That was one of the most thrilling scenes to film.
Chris Rankin
Will you be in the seventh Harry Potter movie?
I hope so.
Did they approach you yet?
I don't know… (hesitates) That's a very complicated question to answer for a lot of different reasons. If we go by the books then there's no reason why I won't be in them. But until they print the script it could go either way. Fingers crossed!
What scene are you most looking forward to?
One of Percy's finest moments is walking back through that portrait into the Room of Requirement at the end of the seventh one when he finally comes back. I can't remember what he says, something like 'Did I miss anything?' (laughs). I just remember reading that in the book and going 'YES! Good boy!'. That would be fun. And then obviously getting to do a bit of action would be quite nice because Percy doesn't get the hardest job really. He just walks around a lot and shouts at people. They might actually give me a wand if I did the seventh film, that would be nice. I haven't had a wand yet!
Percy, although one of the most intelligent Hogwarts students, doesn't see through Lord Voldemort's propaganda. Can you identify with him at all?
I can't really identify with him apart from the fact that we're ginger and round about the same age. Although I was a prefect at school and actually I was a bit of a goodie-goodie. But I am an only child. I don't come from a long line of red-headed children (laughs). But I can understand how he got caught up in the whole ministry propaganda because he's so desperate to succeed. I suppose that comes from the poverty of the Weasley family. They're not rich, they have seven kids but no money and I guess he kind of wants to get out of that.
Thanks to Harry Potter Experts for letting us know!
