Beedle the Bard Movie Ideas and Sales
|
The LA Times have come out with some ideas on how they think The Tales of Beedle the Bard should be made into a film. Their ideas include making a Potter prequel using Dumbledore's commentary, expanding "The Warlock's Hairy Heart", and to ask J.K. Rowling to write a few more tales for a spin off for an animated TV series. Read how they back up their ideas here.
Also, reports are coming out that Tales has now sold 2,629,000 copies, coming out to more than £4 million in sales with all proceeds going to the Children's High Level Group (CHLG). On news of this, Jo stated, "I am absolutely delighted that so much money has been raised."
"I would like to thank everyone who has so far purchased a copy of the book," she said.
"All royalties will be going to help children without families, many of them with disabilities, whose voices have been unheard for many years." |

RDR Books to Publish 'Revised' HP Lexicon
|
We told you yesterday that the Christoper Little Literary Agency had announced that RDR Books had withdrawn their appeal against J.K. Rowling and Warner Bros in the decision against them that prevented them from printing Steve Vander Ark's book, The Harry Potter Lexicon. The judge in the case had ruled that Vander Ark took too much information from the Harry Potter books and did not use enough of his own.
However, it has now been announced that RDR Books will now be publishing a revised edition of the book. It's new title is called The Lexicon: An Unauthorized Guide to Harry Potter Fiction and Related Materials. The release date is January 12th. |

RDR Books Withdraws Appeal for JKR/WB Lawsuit
|
RDR Books have withdrawn from the lawsuit against J.K. Rowling and Warner Bros. If you'll recall, RDR Books lost the case in which they were trying to publish a book by Steven Vander Ark titled the Harry Potter Lexicon. The judge had ruled that the book took too much information from the Harry Potter books and that the author did not use enough of his own work. RDR then filed a plan to appeal the ruling.
The Christoper Little Literary Agency, who represents J.K. Rowling, have issued a statement that RDR Books have canceled their appeal.
"We are delighted that this matter is finally and favourably resolved and that J.K. Rowling's rights -- and indeed the rights of all authors of creative works -- have been protected. We are also pleased to hear that rather than continue to litigate, RDR have themselves decided to publish a different book prepared with reference to Judge Patterson's decision."

Reports and Photos from Beedle Tea Party
|
Some reports and photos are now online from the tea party for The Tales of Beedle the Bard tea party held in Edinburgh in which J.K. Rowling did a reading from the book.
Yahoo! UK is reporting that during her appearance she gave more information on why she decided to write the book.
The idea actually came from you, by which I mean Harry Potter fans," she told the 200 primary school children gathered at Edinburgh's Parliament Hall. "There was quite a lot of high feeling from Harry Potter fans that only someone who had £2 million could afford to read the book. I thought 'fair point', so I thought I'll publish it and then the charity can have that money too."
You can see photos of her at the event in our gallery here (thanks to UHP!).
UPDATE: Mugglenet also have a report. You can see it here. |

RDR Files Notice of Appeal
|
We previously reported that RDR Books had planned on appealing the decision in the lawsuit against JK Rowling and Warner Bros.
Judge Robert Patterson stated that too much information was taken directly from the Harry Potter books for Steve Vander Ark's planned book, which RDR Books was publishing, called the Harry Potter Lexicon. He noted that information was especially taken from the two Comic-Relief books, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages and that Vander Ark did not put enough of his own work into the book.
The Notice of Appeal, which you can see here, was filed on November 7th, and means that an actual appeal will soon follow. We will follow up with any other details as they become available.
