The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) rating for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is PG for scary images, some violence, language and mild sensuality according to RopeofSilicon. This is the first Harry Potter film to receive a PG rating since Prisoner of Azkaban. Both Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix were rated PG-13.
Half-Blood Prince will be in theatres on July 17th.
I agree i figured it would be PG-13 bc of the blood vilonce and all that. I feel it wont be as good if its Pg but thats me

I'm worried about this movie. I'm sure it will be a good movie no matter what, but with the PG rating I'm afraid they will take out a lot of the important scenes that were mentioned in the book. I guess I will always like the books better then the movies

dobbyman: Good point. I just thought of that too when I looked at that new interview with Dan Radcliffe. I just hope that's right. This movie had better not be a disappointment after all they put us through with the move to July.

me again! i just thought of something... perhaps it's because of the balance of dark and comedy we keep hearing the movie has. OOTP probably felt like a heavier film because it didn't have much comic relief. This one does apparently, so perhaps the movie just didn't feel as heavy because of that balance. Which could be good! It does surprise still though...

this is funky... well, I'm sure it'll be good, but that really surprises me. It's a pretty dark story... I'd have thought OOTP would have been rated PG sooner than HBP! Well it doesn't ruin it, but I certainly hope that this doesn't mean that the inferi aren't scary.

seeker: yea, i understand your point..if it was PG-13 they'd prolly have more area/freedom to play around with some of the content or material like the inferi..but i've been really impressed w/David Yates so I think that's why i'm not really worried about it

I`m sure hat it`ll be great.I don`t care that it has scary images or PG rated.plus it`s the new movies,so we just to wait and see it.

bets: Actually, in my opinion, GOF and OOTP tie for the best and they were both PG-13. And the first three were good, but the PG rating was appropriate for them and the content of the books. HBP is ten times darker than all of the first three books. If it's rated PG, then obviously some of the dark material has been toned down, and I'm afraid of what effect this will have on the overall story.

i think it'll be fine..azkaban was PG and it was the best one..plus the first two were greatness as well so i dont think the pg rating will lesson half blood's greatness at all..wow, i said greatness a lot..

That really frightens me. Half-blood Prince is a very dark book, especially towards the end with the Inferi. If it only got a PG rating . . . I'm scared of what they did to it.
