Natalia Tena: Othello, Tonks, And Music

We previously reported that Natalia Tena (Tonks) received the role of “Desdemona” in The Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Othello by William Shakespeare. Oxford Mail interviewed her since the play can be seen currently at the Oxford Playhouse. Ms. Tena was also asked about her role as “Nymphadora Tonks” in Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince (which will be released in theaters on July 17, 2009).

Prior to auditioning for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Ms. Tena didn’t have any interest in the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling. She was just interested in the idea of portraying a witch:

“No, I wasn’t into the whole Harry Potter thing when I got the part, but I did fancy being a witch,” she admits.

“So I thought I’d better read the book for the audition and then I got it and got what all the fuss was about and now I’m really into it.”

When asked whether or not she will be in Deathly Hallows, Ms. Tena was quoted to have answered this:

“Well, I’m in the sixth one. And I haven’t heard about the seventh one yet, although Tonks features a lot in the book, but that doesn’t always translate to the film.”

Although her acting career is doing well, Ms. Tena is eager to get back to her music and her band Molotov Jukebox. Her boyfriend is also a member of the band:

“Yeah, they’re waiting for me to finish in Othello and then we can get down to writing some more songs and get more involved in the band this summer. I play the accordian, sing and write the songs. And my boyfriend –he’s just amazing, and he plays the violin and writes the songs as well,” she says.
