Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter films, is taking on another young adult book series. This time it's the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series written by Rick Riordan. The series is about a boy whose mother is a human, but his father is one of the Greek gods - Poseidon, to be exact. Percy is put into many nasty situations because his father is a god. Plus, his father's blood comes with many side effects, including ADHD, dyslexia, and the unfortunate circumstance of seeing monsters and other scary things.
Pre-production has begun on the first book in the series, The Lightning Thief. Actors for some main characters have already been confirmed. They include Logan Lerman (The Patriot and 3:10 to Yuma) as Percy, Brandon T. Jackson as Grover, and Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth. More big stars were confirmed yesterday, to include Pierce Brosnan as Chiron, Sean Bean as Zeus, and Uma Thurman as Medusa.
If you haven't read this series yet, I highly recommend it. It has lots of fun action, good fun, and a Camp Half-Blood. There are a total of five books in the series with the fifth one, The Last Olympian, to be released in May.
This series is amazing. Almost all of my friends have read it, and we all love it even if it is for readers a little younger than us. You will learn more about Greek mythology from reading that series than you ever will in a classroom. I'm so excited that it's going to be a movie although I'm not too sure about the casting for Annabeth. The actress is 11 years older than the character! Anyway, I also can't wait for the May 5th when the last book comes out. If you haven't read this yet, you should.

Very cool. We have a son with ADHD and he's a big fan. We use an attention training system that allows him to control the computer by MIND alone -- just like Harry! He's soooooooo excited and this will resonate with him. The program is call Play Attention at www.playattention.com.
