Happy Birthday to Zoe Wanamaker
|
Happy Birthday, Ms. Wanamaker! Zoë Wanamaker (Madam Hooch) is 59 years old today. She was born on May 13, 1949 in New York City. After her father Sam Wanamaker, an actor, director, and producer, was blacklisted in 1952, Ms. Wanamaker’s family moved to England. Becoming a British citizen in 2000 to receive a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) from the Queen, Ms. Wanamaker still retains her American citizenship.
Although she has done quite a few television, theater, and film roles, she is currently known for her role as “Susan Harper” in the British television series My Family. Ms. Wanamaker recently agreed to do an interview for the May 2008 issue of UK’s Woman & Home. Click here to read an edited version of the interview.

Helen McCrory's Five Minute Interview
|
One day when Helen McCrory was still filming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in her role as “Narcissa Malfoy”, her driver got lost and The Independent caught up with her for a five-minute interview while she smoked a cigarette, thinking "I'm late for work."
In the five minutes, Ms. McCrory mentions what she would do if she were a politician, a phrase she uses too often, what she wishes "people would take more notice of", the most surprising thing that happened to her, what the most common misperception of her is, what she is very good at, what she is very bad at, what she does in weak moments, what she would have been in another life, the best age to be, and what her philosophy is "in a nutshell".

Helen McCrory: Interview With UK's Evening Standard
|
Thanks to Helen’s Haven and Damian's Dominion, scans from an interview Helen McCrory did with UK’s Evening Standard can be read online. The interview happened a week after the British actress completed her role as “Narcissa Malfoy” in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. When asked about the filming, her reply was: "If I told you that they'd shoot you as you walked away from this building. No I'm not joking." Then she reveals: "It's like working for MI5. When you film, a man comes in with a wand. You do the scene, and as soon as it's finished, it's locked in a cupboard. At first you think: 'Why?' And then you see the eyes of the kids being shown round the set and you think: 'Oh that's why.' Because if it's not nailed down, it's going to disappear."
Ms. McCrory mentions her experience with American healthcare while living in Los Angeles, CA when her husband Damian Lewis was working on a film. At the time, she had been seven months pregnant and her older daughter Manon had developed a fever.
Other topics included her background and her current projects, which one of them is her role as "Rebecca West" in Roserholm by Henrik Ibsen at London's Almeida Theater on May 15-July 5, 2008.

Happy Birthday to Leslie Phillips
|
Happy Birthday, Mr. Phillips! Leslie Phillips turned 84 years old today. He was born in Tottenham, England on April 20, 1924. His voice was heard as the Sorting Hat that placed Daniel Radcliffe as "Harry Potter" into Gryffindor House in the first Harry Potter film and spoke a few words to him in the second one, which were based on the books by J.K. Rowling. Mr. Phillips is the only actor still alive who performed at Pinewood Studios in London during the first week it opened in 1936. He is known for his comic roles in radio and television. Aside from the first two Harry Potter films, he was in Lara Croft, Tomb Raider and Venus, which he was nominated for a BAFTA as Best Supporting Actor.

McCrory Speaks Narcissa Malfoy
|
Actress Helen McCrory, who will play Narcissa Malfoy in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, spoke today with Times Online.
In it, she speaks of her role as Narcissa Malfoy, among other things.
"I play Narcissa Malfoy in the new Harry Potter film. If I told you what I was wearing, I would probably have to kill you; it's a bit like working for MI5." For our American readers, MI5 is something similar to the CIA in the United States. "My costume is very couture, with beautifully sculpted silhouettes. The costumes are designed by my Parisian friend. Of course, style was battered into her at an early age."

A Potter Confession From Broadbent
|
At the London film premiere of Happy-Go-Lucky, Metro.co.uk had a brief interview with Jim Broadbent, who has the role of "Professor Slughorn" in the film version of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The Oscar winning actor was quoted to have confessed:
"I'm not a massive fan, no, it's not really part of my generation. But I had read the first one and seen the films. I caught up with the sixth one, which I'm in. But I have to admit I haven't read them all."
However, Broadbent is noted to have said that he is enjoying making the film.

Four Potter Stars to Attend "Coolest Show on Earth"
|
Harry Potter actors Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) (I love him!), Devon Murray (Seamus Finnigan) (I love him, too!), Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley) (I love him, too! Geeze!), and Jamie Yeates (Marcus Flint) (oooh, who?) are all going to attend "The Coolest Show on Earth" (or is it? *evil laughter*) in Orlando, Florida next January. There was some disarrangement (is that a word? I'm not thinking straight today) last year after some booked HP actors had to cancel due to filming, but now the show's organizers say that they "have solid confirmations from all four actors this time around."
Tickets aren't yet available through the show's website, but we'll update you once they are.
Thanks to Veritaserum! |
