Update: Confirmed: Deathly Hallows Film in Two Parts
|
The LA Times has confirmed that the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows film will be in two parts!
The first part will be released in November 2010, and the second part will be released May 2011!
The titles will be Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II.
Additionally it is confirmed that David Yates, director of both Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince will direct both Hallows films. The films will be filmed concurrently.
Dan Radcliffe is especially happy about the news, stating that it is the only way it can be done without cutting out a huge portion of the book.
Producer David Heyman said that there was much anxiety about this decision, as he was afraid that some critics would see it as a mercenary move. "I swear to you it was born out of purely creative reasons," Heyman said during an interview in a converted airplane factory outside London that has been home base to all of the "Potter" productions. "Unlike every other book, you cannot remove elements of this book. You can remove scenes of Ron playing quidditch from the fifth book, and you can remove Hermione and S.P.E.W. [Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare] and those subplots . . . but with the seventh, that can't be done."
He went on to say that J.K. Rowling was 'cool' with the decision.
An MTV article goes on to speculate as to where they should cut the film.
UPDATE: Warner Bros has now confirmed that the film will definitely be in two parts. The statement also confirms that David Yates will direct the last films, and that David Heyman and David Barron will continue on as producers.

Ralph Fiennes Not in Half-Blood Prince
|
Ralph Fiennes, who portrayed Lord Voldemort in the fourth and fifth Harry Potter films, recently spoke with Ain't It Cool News. During the interview, he was asked if he was in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. He stated that he was not. He said, as we previously told you, that his nephew Hero Fiennes Tiffin is in the film as young Tom Riddle. When Ralph was asked whether he has yet signed on for the seventh film, Deathly Hallows, he said he hasn't yet. |

David Yates to Direct Deathly Hallows Rumor
|
MTV Movies Blog is reporting that there's a possibility David Yates, director of both Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince, will also direct Deathly Hallows. Writer Lois Lowry, who wrote The Giver, reported on her blog that Yates was to direct the film version of the book, but that he delayed because he decided to direct the last Potter film.
If you will recall, I, myself, asked David Yates if he would be willing to direct Deathly Hallows during the Phoenix premiere last July. He said he would, if time permits.
An announcement is to come from the Warner Bros camp within the next week or two. Until that announcement comes, please consider this information a rumor. |

Jason Isaacs Hopes to Return for Deathly Hallows
|
Jason Isaacs, who portrays Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, recently spoke with Rotten Tomatoes. During the interview, he joked that Lucius not being in the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film is a 'source of great embitterment in the Isaacs household'. He later went on to say, "He's in Azkaban so what can you do?"
He does certainly hope to return for Deathly Hallows, however he hasn't heard whether he will be or when filming will begin. Although, those who have read the seventh book know our favorite Slytherin dad returns in the last book, so let's hope Jason is signed up soon! |

Potter Producers 'Discussing' Splitting Last Film
|
Harry Potter producer David Barron has stated that they are discussing whether to split Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows into two films.
"We are still discussing it. The announcement will be made hopefully in the not-too-distant future, with regards to the way seven shapes up," he said.
The only negative, he states, is that people may believe they're trying to 'cash in' on splitting the last film. The positive, of course, is that they don't have to figure out how to fit the entire film into a short time frame. "It would be brilliant not to have to cut anything. But at the same time, we have to think it through properly. We'd have to be very certain that there were two proper, stand-alone films that could be generated from the source material."
David Heyman, the other producer, went on to say that there is no one they've chosen as a director, and that there's plenty of time for consideration, as filming won't begin until February 2009.

Timothy Spall Signed On for 6th and 7th Potter Films
|
Timothy Spall, who portrays Peter Pettigrew/Wormtail in the Harry Potter films, recently spoke with Moviehole, confirming that he's signed on for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
“Well I'm actually.... yes... I'm in the next one”, reveals the British actor. "And I'm also in the one at the end – I have a very big scene in that. I think they might be shooting two of them back-to-back – hard to know though, what with this writer's strike and all. They're shooting the penultimate one at the moment – which I have a brief appearance in it. I should be doing that soon."

Update: Rumours of Deathly Hallows Movie in Two Parts
|
An article by the Daily Mail is suggesting that the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows film will be done in two parts. I post this information with much reluctance, as the source is not very valid, and the information is really considered a rumour. The article quotes a film source as saying, "There's so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well."
Before everyone gets excited, as all of us would prefer the entire book be put into the film (even if it means we have two films), please realize that the source stated that it is the 'view' that the film 'should be' put into two halves; not that it was going to happen.
All of this information, of course, is complete speculation and rumour until it is confirmed by Warner Bros.
UPDATE: Empire Magazine did a follow up to this information, trying to get confirmation. When speaking with Warner Bros, they were informed that "no decision has been made about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows".
As a matter of fact, they've learned that Steve Kloves, the screenwriter, has not written a script yet due to the current Writer's Guild of America (WGA) strike, which prevents him from working on the project. |

During that time, one of the attendees had the chance to speak with Mr. Williams and asked whether Mr. Williams will be back for the last film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Alfonso Cuaron "Tempted" to Direct Deathly Hallows Movie
|
Alfonso Cuaron, director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, recently gave an interview with Rotten Tomatoes. In the interview, Cuaron states that he would be "very tempted" to direct Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:
You know, it was such a great opportunity and such a beautiful two years and everything around Harry Potter - JK Rowling's creation - is enveloped in this really beneficial energy. I got the benefits of that energy for those two years. So yes I'd be very tempted to do so even though, at this point, I feel a little bit like I have to try to do the films that are not going to exist without me. On the same token, I would be really tempted because it was really beautiful. I just started reading the last book and something I respect is the care the producers have put in the film franchise. It would have been so easy after the success of the series just to take the cynical approach of knowing that no matter what people are going to see those movies. Actually they've been taking a lot of care from beginning to end, so yeah I would be really tempted.

Radcliffe Will Return For Final Two Films
|
DR.co.uk has confirmed that Dan Radcliffe has signed on for the last two Harry Potter films, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
I am pleased to inform you that it has been confirmed for us by Dan's Publicist that Dan has, in fact, signed on for the last two Harry Potter films. Dan will begin filming in September on Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. He has also signed on to return and reprise his role as Harry in the very last film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This will "mark a place" in history for Dan and fulfill his wishes as he stated more than three years ago that he would like to portray "Harry" in all of the films. |
