Tonner Dolls: Lucius Malfoy and Win A Harry Potter Doll
|
In honor of Half-Blood Prince’s film release on July 15, Doll Reader magazine interviewed doll manufacturer Robert Tonner about his Harry Potter collection. He started making the collectible dolls in November 2005. Naturally, Harry was the first one created, followed by Ron and Hermione. This year, Professor Dumbledore and Bellatrix Lestrange are a part of Tonner Doll Company’s 2009 Collection. There are other Harry Potter characters, such as Draco Malfoy, Cho Chang, Luna Lovegood, and even Professor Snape, which already have been released.
Mr. Tonner mentioned in the interview that he and his company are in the process of creating a Lucius Malfoy doll in the likeness of Jason Isaacs, the actor who portrays Draco Malfoy’s father in the Harry Potter films. Also, he has plans to make all of the Weasleys.
When asked which Harry Potter book and film were his favorite, Mr. Tonner was quoted to have replied:
"I’ve read every single book and seen every movie at least once, and I’d have to say my favorite in both cases is 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.' In both cases I was blown away by the amount of action and intrigue,"... As for the contest to win a Harry Potter doll created by the Tonner Doll Company, Doll Reader and Robert Tonner are giving away a “Harry Potter Prize Package”.

Harry Potter Is On Oprah's 'Best Big-Screen Books' List
|
In Oprah.com's "Screening Room", the site created a list of Best Lists. One of the lists is the "Best Big-Screen Books". From the nine best books on the big screen that are listed, such as To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling is #9:
"The Harry Potter Series The films based on J.K. Rowling's books are magical indeed. From the opulence of the Great Hall to the creepiness of Severus Snape, the movies reinforce the pictures we played in our heads while reading into the wee hours of the morning. Now that this beloved book series has come to an end, the remaining films are the only things we Potter fanatics have to hold on to."
The link in the summary leads to an old, but interesting, O Magazine article about Ms. Rowling.

UPDATE: Video and Photos of Harry Potter: The Exhibition
|
USA Today have a video and new photos of Harry Potter: The Exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. They show costumes, herbology items, and much more.
According to their report, when entering the exhibit, there are eight video screens showing clips from the movies as music from the soundtracks plays. A wall rises to reveal a life-sized train: Hogwarts Express, surrounded by billowing fog. After strolling past a wall of portraits, some of their subjects "alive" via video, visitors enter the Gryffindor common room.
Many of the precious items are where people can't get close enough to touch them, however most objects are close enough to examine fine details, such as the snake clasps on Lucius Malfoy's cloak and Lord Voldemort's hand-carved wand. A sign on a gardening bench says "please pull," inviting visitors to tug on a baby mandrake — in Potter lore, a plant with a humanlike root that emits screams when yanked.
Visitors can plop down in an enormous chair in the hut occupied by Hagrid, the half-giant groundskeeper at Hogwarts. They can toss a Quaffle — a 12-inch leather-covered ball used in the wizarding game Quidditch — through three metal rings.
Many of the professors' items are also included in the exhibit, including Professor Trelawney's glass ball.
Check out the photos in our gallery beginning here. You can see the video here.
You can buy tickets to the exhibit here! The exhibit runs April 30 through September 7, 2009.
UPDATE: More photos of the exhibit have been released by the Museum of Science and Industry. You can see many more of the displays, Buckbeak, and more, beginning here! |

Courage According To Harry Potter
|
Tom Morris, an active US philosopher and author, wrote an article titled "Harry Potter’s Five Steps To Courage" for The Huffington Post. He begins the article with the discouraging news and facts that are happening in the world and asks:
How in the world can we act with courage and confidence in a time so fraught with threats and rumors of impending disaster?
Then, Mr. Morris mentions how he discovered the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling and their "inner wisdom" which he wrote in a book of his own that led him to speak at an international Harry Potter conference in Las Vegas. He believes Ms. Rowling is "one of the most practical philosophers of our time":
She has managed to capture deep wisdom in her tremendously engaging tales, and has introduced a new generation to the importance of the classic virtues delineated long ago by such great thinkers as Plato and Aristotle. In particular, her main character shows us that without personal courage, it's impossible to prevail in a time of great challenge.

Scholastic: Which TriWizard Champion Do You Admire?
|
Scholastic, the publisher of the US Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling, posted a new Rita Skeeter’s Daily Opinion Poll on their Harry Potter page. Submitted by Ashton, the question is: Which TriWizard Tournament champion do you admire the most? Is it Harry Potter, Cedric Diggory, Fleur Delacour, or Victor Krum?
Considering that both Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory) are in movies (Half-Blood Prince on July 15 and New Moon on November 20) which will be released in theaters this year, I think this is a great poll question.

Chris Columbus Takes on the Olympians
|
Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter films, is taking on another young adult book series. This time it's the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series written by Rick Riordan. The series is about a boy whose mother is a human, but his father is one of the Greek gods - Poseidon, to be exact. Percy is put into many nasty situations because his father is a god. Plus, his father's blood comes with many side effects, including ADHD, dyslexia, and the unfortunate circumstance of seeing monsters and other scary things.
Pre-production has begun on the first book in the series, The Lightning Thief. Actors for some main characters have already been confirmed. They include Logan Lerman (The Patriot and 3:10 to Yuma) as Percy, Brandon T. Jackson as Grover, and Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth. More big stars were confirmed yesterday, to include Pierce Brosnan as Chiron, Sean Bean as Zeus, and Uma Thurman as Medusa.
If you haven't read this series yet, I highly recommend it. It has lots of fun action, good fun, and a Camp Half-Blood. There are a total of five books in the series with the fifth one, The Last Olympian, to be released in May.
The film's release date is February 28, 2010. |
