The artwork, which was made by artist Cliff Wright, was used to help develop the cover. According to the artist, the designs were sent to J. K. Rowling for approval for the cover. "The designs were also passed on to JK Rowling for her approval and any comments passed back to me. Thus, for example, the Hippogriff was based on a design that was sent through to me from Jo," he stated.

"Along with griffins and dragons, Hippogriffs can be found in medieval bestiaries."

The cover image, on sale at just under £13,000, is one of ten that was sent to Bloomsbury as part of the character development and composition.

The Grim is priced at just under £11,000.
